Maia Wackernagel (1965) is a classically trained pianist (Basel Conservatory, MA in Paris). After her studies, she worked as a versatile interpreter of classical works, contemporary music from hip-hop to film music. She actually came late to jazz, after 20 years of devoting herself mainly to her family and only making sporadic escapades into concert activities. The exciting new terrain opens up unlimited possibilities for musical expression.

Concerts with various musicians at home and abroad have followed. In 2019 a piano solo recital of improvisations in London and invitations to international festivals in Abidjan, Ivory Coast and in Yaoundé, Cameroon. In working with the African musicians, she was able to broaden her horizons.

Out of the silence of the pandemic, the recordings for their current double CD "Patterns Of Self And Other" emerged in 2022, which will be released on June 23, 2023 on the Berlin label Xjazz! Music. In advance, Maia Wackernagel released the three songs "Lover Man" (release May 19, 2023), "Quiet Now" (release June 2, 2023) and Dreamcore (Jun 16, 2023) as a sample.
