AMERICAN JAZZ CLASSICS AHMAD JAMAL - THE COMPLETE 1962 AT THE BLACKHAWK 2CD set + 9 bonus tracks. Includes a comprehensive 12-page booklet This release compiles all known 1962 performances by the celebrated Ahmad Jamal Trio with Israel Crosby and Vernel Fournier at the Blackhawk club in San Francisco. This material was originally issued on the LP, Ahmad Jamal at the Blackhawk (Argo LPS-703). Nine extra tunes from the engagement, that were not issued on the original LP, have been added. This formation of Jamals trio, so admired by Miles Davis, ended midway through 1962 following the death of its bassist, Israel Crosby. Ahmad Jamal at the Blackhawk This is the group that so dazzled Miles Davis with its use of space and lyricism. Contained here are the legendary Live at the Blackhawk performances. Notable Jamal renditions of standards, such as 'Angel Eyes,' 'Falling in Love with Love,' and 'On Green Dolphin Street' are all here, making this the definitive Jamal of the early '60s, and easily his finest live offering. Sound is warm, spacious, and full, and the entire proceeding is beautifully assembled.
