Kevin Mackenzie has gathered nine of the best jazz & folk musicians from Scotland vibrant music scene, and their voices mix together many influences on "Another New Horizon", with an unusual frontline of two saxes (Martin Kershaw, Phil Bancroft) and two violins (Chris Stout, Aidan O'Rourke) combining to make a sound something like a fictitious Tarantino remake of an English TV sitcom crossed with the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack! It's certainly an individual sound but as well as referencing many points from musics ancient & modern it's also got a heavily grooving rhythm section which drives the compositions along. Kevin Mackenzie's background in both folk and jazz groups shines through in this stunning album. Forthcoming gigs: 14/5 & 15/5 Henry's Cellar Bar, Edinburgh; 16/5 The Tron, Glasgow Advertising to run in Jazz Review. Press coverage expected from Jazzwise, Jazz Review & Scottish regional dailies.
