Pianist McCoy Tyner sits out on 'Blues to Bechet' and 'Blues to You', reducing the band to a trio on these tunes. On 'Blues to Bechet' and 'Mr. Syms', Trane plays soprano sax.
This expanded edition explores even deeper into Coltrane's approach to playing the blues by including 13 additional blues composition of his own. Recorded between 1957 and 1960, these outstanding tunes feature a myriad of jazz stars. The formations range from trios to multi-horn blowing performances, and among the latter is the remarkable 'Groove Blues', which finds Trane playing on alto sax.
