Recorded between 1982 and 1994, 'Duets: Associates' features saxophonist Steve Lacy in a variety of duo contexts with the likes of trombonists Roswell Rudd and George Lewis, guitarist Derek Bailey, pianist Mal Waldron and saxophonist Steve Potts. They perform a mix of Lacy originals together with two Thelonious Monk compositions, "Epistrophy" and "Pannonica". The variety of repertoire and musicians makes this CD a unique document of one of the subtlest arts of this great saxophone player: the duet.
