Like all creative artists, Hiromi is expanding her horizons and one such way is by touring with Edmar Castenada, an extremely talented and unique harpist. This project captured an incredible performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival in June 2017 that needs to be heard to be believed. It's now available as a double LP, pressed at leading pressing plant, Optimal.

Ever since the 2003 release of her debut Telarc album, 'Another Mind', Hiromi has electrified audiences and critics east and west, with a creative energy that encompasses and eclipses the boundaries of jazz, classical and pop parameters, taking improvisation and composition to new heights of complexity and sophistication. Most recently, she has had a string of successful albums with the trio of Anthony Jackson on bass and Simon Phillips on drums.

Hiromi and Castaneda are musical soul brother and sister: each has a ridiculous facility on their instrument, each has the showboating flair of the natural entertainer and neither are going to play one note when they can squeeze in a dozen. It’s no surprise that this concatenation of cuts is impulsive and propulsive, with big chords, bigger energy and a love of a sweeping melody.

It’s hard to miss the delight Hiromi Uehara seems to take in performing. That vibe is on full display here as she explores the possibilities opened up by the presence of harpist Edmar Castaneda, who sees no reason to be contained by the usual boundaries of his instrument. Castaneda and Uehara are in great sync here. The Star Wars “Cantina Band” homage is another ideal vehicle for two players who aren’t afraid to unleash their senses of humor and adventure.
