The Cuban pianist/composer Omar Sosa's sixth solo piano album, 'Senses', is a very personal, intimate set of sixteen improvisations - relaxed, introspective and infused with calm and tranquillity. "The pieces are musical journeys, during which my Cuban roots emerge in unusual, deconstructed ways".
'Senses', was created at EMPAC, the Experimental Media and Performing Arts in Troy, NY, in February 2012. Omar was invited to an artist residency at EMPAC with Zimbabwean dancer/choreographer Nora Chipaumire to compose music for Nora's dance-theatre piece, Miriam. During the residency period, Omar used the state-of-the art facilities at EMPAC, including a magnificent Yamaha CFIII concert grand piano, to record this solo piano set.
Sosa's recording career began in 1997 with the release of his first solo piano recording, he has since worked with an array of leading musicians. Among his many associations are Steve Argüelles, Miguel "Angá" Diaz, Trilok Gurtu, Dhafer Youssef, Paolo Fresu and Paquito D'Rivera
