Ballrogg create a unique and distinctive form of chamber jazz, made up of avant garde drones and textures, with hints of free jazz, Americana and neo-classical music. The band comprises saxophonist Klaus Holm and double bassist Roger Arntzen, which has been extended to a trio with the great Norwegian guitar and pedal steel guitar player Ivar Grydeland.
Ballrogg presents a very personal type of chamber music, drawing influences from European contemporary music as well as the American avant garde. The group's palette has been further extended on this new album, with music that evokes the sounds of both guitarist Bill Frisell and the Chicago band Town & Country.
Klaus Ellerhusen Holm also plays with the Norwegian quartet Murmur and has worked with Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, Ingar Zach, Jim Denley and Raymond Strid. Roger Arntzen is best known for his work in the trio In The Country who have released three albums on Rune Grammofon to much acclaim. He has also worked with Marc Ribot, Bob Hoffnar, Neil Metcalfe, Sidsel Endresen, Susanna Wallumrød and Stian Carstensen. Ivar Grydeland is a member of the group Dans Les Arbres, who have recently released their second album on ECM. He's also a member of Huntsville (two releases on Rune Grammofon and Hubro) and plays regularly with the Norwegian singer Hanne Hukkelberg.
