This is the first album from the latest incarnation of the Jonathan Gee Trio. Recorded in New York in two sessions spanning 3 years with a UK tour in between, it features two of New York's finest, bassist Joseph Lepore and drummer Nasheet Waits.
The album features six originals from pianist Jonathan Gee and a Thelonious Monk composition. The band came together through Gee's regular visits to New York to soak in and play on the vibrant jazz scene. After being voted Guardian/Wire British Jazz Awards "Most Promising Newcomer" in 1991, Jonathan Gee enjoyed a highly successful ten-year collaboration with bassist Steve Rose and drummer Winston Clifford. He has also worked with many of the UK's leading jazz musicians, including Steve Williamson, Iain Ballamy, Orphy Robinson, Ed Jones, Claire Martin, Tim Whitehead, Christine Tobin and poet Lemn Sissay. In Europe he has appeared with US musicians David Murray, Benny Golson, Art Farmer, Mark Murphy, Harry Allen, James Spaulding, Sonny Fortune and Ted Curson. 2011 saw him successfully perform with young British trumpet star Jay Phelps and US saxophone legend Pharaoh Sanders.
