4AD

4AD is a London-based record label, originally founded under the name "Axis" named after the Jimi Hendrix album of the same name by Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent. It is an imprint of the Beggars Group record company. The label gained prominence in the 1980s for signing alternative and gothic acts like Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins and Pixies. 4AD continued to be successful by later releasing albums by modern rock acts like Red House Painters, St. Vincent and Bon Iver.
