Blues
Blues music is a style that originated in the Deep South of the United States as early as the 1860s, developing from African-American work songs and spirituals sung by slaves. Blues as a genre is the basis for many modern styles of popular music including jazz, funk, rock, funk, hip-hop and pop music. Some of the earliest artists resembling contemporary blues music were Ma Rainey (the "Mother of the Blues") and Robert Johnson, and blues itself has splintered into numerous subgenres such as Delta blues and Chicago blues.
