Red Clay
Freddie Hubbard
Released in 1970, Red Clay marked Freddie Hubbard’s debut for CTI and a thrilling new chapter in his career. Blending hard-bop fire with funkier rhythms and spacious production, it captures the trumpeter at his most confident and adventurous. Joe Henderson, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Lenny White form an exceptional band, giving Hubbard plenty of room to soar without losing the music’s earthy groove. The title track became an enduring jazz standard, while the album remains an ideal doorway into Hubbard’s rich, muscular sound.
