This week’s new releases span intimate vocal jazz, archival discoveries, and boundary-pushing contemporary fusion. Kevin Reveyrand’s Extended Minimalism, Vol. 1 explores richly textured and low-frequency chamber writing, with unusual instrumental pairings, and from the vaults of cosmic jazz history, Sun Ra’s East Two + 5 reveals rare and previously unreleased recordings from the Arkestra’s most exploratory period. Ole Matthiessen’s Subcurrents trace a remarkable career through decades of ensemble work and spontaneous solo improvisations and vocalist Lucy Yeghiazaryan’s Hey Love! brings warmth and intimacy to the jazz standard repertoire with understated emotional clarity. Finally, Straight08 unites Sam Barsh, Keyon Harrold, and Mark Guiliana in a high-energy fusion of straight-ahead jazz and groove culture.
