We bring you the best of new jazz releases to finish off the month, from Joe Lovano’s Paramount Quartet, an improvisatory driven set with Julian Lage, Asante Santi Debriano and Will Calhoun that balances intensity and intimacy, to Mahan Mirarab’s Unspoken, a deeply personal and stripped-back work of reflection shaped by trust, loss and emotional clarity. This week also revisits Miles Davis’ legendary 1958 improvised soundtrack, Ascenseur pour l'échafaud a feverish and myth-shrouded recording that remains one of jazz’s most iconic film scores, while Chris Coull’s quartet with Imogen Ryall reimagines Porgy & Bess through poised, elegant interpretations of Gershwin’s enduring standards, and Robinson Khoury’s Transara extends his trio’s boundary-pushing blend of trombone, voice and electronics into a fluid, introspective world of shared emotional space.
