The prevailing theme this week is undoubtedly acoustic and electric worlds colliding, with highly-acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Shabaka making a return with Of The Earth, saxophonist Mark Lockheart debuting his latest album Shapeshifter, and pianist Shai Maestro hot on the heels of last year’s solo release with his latest work, The Guesthouse. Other releases this week include Walter Smith III with Twio Vol.2, and Omer Klein and his new sextet performing originals in The Poetics.

Mark Lockheart
Saxophonist Mark Lockheart, famously a member of British band Polar Bear and most recently, a performer on Edition’s Vital Spark: Music of Kenny Wheeler, now releases his latest album Shapeshifter. Filled with energy and plenty of electronics working alongside the acoustic instruments, this album weaves grooves together and invites influences from a wide range of genres.
