We’re closing January with a bang as major jazz labels Blue Note, Edition Records and Whirlwind Recordings present some of their first new releases of the year. Kicking off is trombonist Nabou Claerhout with her Edition debut Indigo, and Blue Note’s vibraphonist Joel Ross presents his spiritual take on the Bible with Gospel Music. French trumpeter Pierre-Antoine Savoyat gets creative in Thousand Shades Of A Clown and Whirlwind presents the latest from multi-generational ensemble QOW Trio with The Rule Of Three. Finally, now produced both digitally and on CD, is the previously unreleased compilation of Lester Leaps In: Live At Birdland 1951-1952, with recordings taken from the saxophonist’s performances across four dates - perfect for any jazz collector.
Indigo
Nabou
Presenting her third album, but her debut on Edition Records, trombonist Nabou Claerhout explores themes of change and renewal in Indigo. Traversing vast musical landscapes, the album embraces lyrical dreaminess as easily as melancholic contemplation, the trombone fading in and out of the soundscapes with sonic depth and heaps of nuance.
