Introducing the Percussion Plus Honestly Made kenkeni
This kenkeni from Percussion Plus is a double ended Dundun style drum made from strong bamboo. The drum head is made from durable goatskin, so when struck the instrument creates a strong and resonant tone. The drum also comes with both a soft and hard beater to create a variety of timbres when using the drum.
The word kenkeni refers to the smallest size of Dundun drums from Africa, making its design an ideal size for younger children. Its tough materials also makes it long lasting within a classroom environment. With an attractive design, rope tuning, and a rich tone, these drums are perfect for drum circles and can be used as the driving rhythm within a djembe group.
Each kenkeni is sourced using Fair trade principles. See below for more information about the Honestly Made range of musical instruments from Percussion Plus.
These items are musical instruments, not toys, and there may be many small parts on, or in, some of them. Younger players should use them with supervision.
A Traditional Instrument
Kenkeni Dundun drums are commonly found in Mali and costal regions of West Africa and traditionally have a cylindrical shape with rawhide skin at both ends which is tuned through the ropes at the sides of the drum. This kenkeni is a great way to introduce new music and culture in the classroom using music and rhythm.
