The Yamaha FG3 isn't just another acoustic, it's a finely tuned blend of tradition and modern innovation. Its all-solid wood construction, featuring a Sitka Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides, delivers a tone that’s both bright and warm, with a punchy low-end that resonates.

The African Mahogany neck, topped with Ebony, ensures smooth playability, while Yamaha’s A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) treatment imbues the wood with a vintage character, right out of the box. This dreadnought sings with versatility, handling everything from robust strumming to delicate fingerpicking with a dynamic range that avoids harshness.

Targeted at players seeking quality without breaking the bank, the FG3's comfortable neck and responsive action cater to those refining their technique, while its rich tone fuels creative expression. It’s a reliable workhorse for recording musicians, offering professional sound at a mid-tier price.

FG: The Heritage

Tracing its lineage back to the iconic 1966 FG180, the FG3 is a modern homage to Yamaha’s heritage. The Red Label revival isn't just nostalgia, it's a fusion of the classic aesthetic, think semi-gloss finish and open-gear tuners, with cutting-edge advancements like A.R.E. and updated bracing. It captures the spirit of the original FG guitars, famously played by artists like Country Joe McDonald, while meeting the demands of today’s musicians.

Classic Headstock

The guitar retains the original FG headstock shape, adorned with our iconic Tuning Fork logo. The traditional truss rod cover is emblazoned with "Since 1966" to mark the launch of the first FG models.

Solid Sitka Spruce Top

Commonly sourced from Canada and Alaska, solid Sitka Spruce offers a rich midrange and low-frequency response. The sound is tight and focused, working particularly well for chordal strumming or rhythmic finger-style performances.

Solid Mahogany Back & Sides

Mahogany has a slower transient response than many other tonewoods, contributing to a warm and woody tone with strong midrange.

A.R.E.: Acoustic Resonance Enhancement

Yamaha's Acoustic Resonance Enhancement ('A.R.E.') treatment uses a carefully-controlled environment where heat, humidity and atmospheric pressure are altered to accelerate the natural ageing of the tonewood, removing imperfections and unwanted moisture in a process which would literally take years otherwise. A.R.E. gives an instrument a rich, vintage-quality tone, producing a sound as if you've been playing it for years.

Classic FG Body

Yamaha were the first Japanese guitar maker to develop an original body shape instead of simply copying previous designs. The differences are subtle (measured with millimetre precision) but the slightly wider body contributes to the warm FG sound that players have loved for generations. A semi-gloss finish application further evokes a vintage look and feel.
