Joachim Herz's production of Der Freischtz was broadcast by East German Television on the evening of 13 February 1985 on the occasion of the "Reopening of the Semperoper", reaching audiences in 19 countries, with delayed broadcasts also transmitted in the USA and Canada. Remarkably, the television soundtrack was recorded using digital 4-track DENON technology from Japan for the first time. This innovative system enabled an exceptionally vivid and natural sound recording, which even today remains exemplary in terms of sound quality, vocal clarity, and the authentic acoustic atmosphere of the Semperoper.
