About
A conversation between the piano compositions of Lili Boulanger and her teacher Gabriel Fauré. Lili Boulanger’s lesser-known dreamy Préludes (never published) and Marche gaie (recently discovered), along with her popular 3 Morceaux and her more serious Theme and Variations, are mirrored by Fauré’s masterpiece Theme and Variations, as well as his lesser-known, melodic, and enchanting Pièces brèves.

Walker approaches the music with suitable intellect and rigour as well as sensitivity. He has a pleasingly rounded, cushioned sound, alive to those half-lights suggested by the title, and an instinct for creating atmosphere through touch (rather than succumbing to the current vogue for pulling tempi around, which would not be remotely suitable here).
