Gardner is on top form in the Dvořák. The melodic lines soar and sing, the rhythms are taut and muscular, but able to relax when needed, while the dance music has a fine spring in the step especially in the wonderful rhythmic fun-andgames of the Scherzo. On one level it's a magnificent tragic-dark-to-exultant-light drama; on another it's pure joy.
