About

Bertrand Chamayou celebrates Maurice Ravel’s 150th anniversary with Ravel: Fragments. The programme features Ravel’s transcriptions of La Valse and excerpts from Daphnis et Chloé, Chamayou’s own transcriptions of vocal works, and pieces inspired by Ravel by historic composers (Arthur Honegger, Joaquín Nin, Alexandre Tansman, Xavier Montsalvatge and Ricardo Viñes) and contemporary composers (Betsy Jolas, Salvatore Sciarrino and Frédéric Durieux).

May 2025

[La valse] sounds as if at least six hands are at work. This is a titanic, gripping account of this tumultuous piece, combining impact with warmth and projecting with absolute clarity the collapse of civilization around us. A timely vision.

April 2025

In Chamayou’s intended order, which intermingles Ravel with the composers who evoke and distort him, this artfully organised recital provides an agreeably disorientating sensation in which our understanding of the composer is subtly transformed...In sum, a revelatory release that’s well worth your attention.
