Ravel's Vocalise-étude en forme de habanera is dreamily seductive, the harp-like qualities of the piano’s upper register also to the fore. Gershwin’s Preludes, by contrast, are suitably rambunctious, the central section of the second prompting a striking change of persona in Leleu from bluesy melancholy to rasping, strutting nightclub frontman.
