As his “musical home”, Sergei Rachmaninoff’s compositions are of “enormous significance” for chief conductor Kirill Petrenko. His third edition together with the Berliner Philharmoniker is dedicated to the Russian composer, the 150th anniversary of whose birth was celebrated in 2023. It presents a multifaceted journey through Rachmaninoff’s oeuvre: the Second Symphony, the Piano Concerto No. 2 with Kirill Gerstein as the soloist, and The Isle of the Dead – three works that the composer, pianist and conductor regularly performed together until his emigration in 1917 – plus the Symphonic Dances, his final work.

In addition to the recordings on two CDs and Blu-ray, the hardcover edition includes an accompanying book designed by Thomas Struth with in-depth introductory texts.

The Blu-ray offers PCM 2.0 stereo audio (24-bit/48-96 kHz), and Atmos 7.1.4 (24-bit/48kHz).
