The album features recordings of two unquestioned string chamber orchestra masterpieces. Although the compositions are almost half a century apart, they are kept in a similar style; presented together, they perfectly complement each other.Verklarte Nachtis a work written by twenty-five-year-old Arnold Schonberg almost twenty years before the beginning of atonality, with which the composer is mainly associated. Metamorphosesare a special piece in the context of Richard Strauss' entire oeuvre, the only one in which the German master of late-Romantic symphony reached for a string orchestra. The musicians of the String Chamber Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Poznan, together with the artistic director and concertmaster Marcin Suszycki and conductor Jakub Chrenowicz, offer a subtle interpretation yet characterized by a saturated and expressive sound - both in the tutti parts and in the numerous episodes performed by the solo instruments.
