About

Born to Cuban and Jamaican parents, Ellinor D’Mellon started to learn the violin aged just two. Today at only twenty, ‘she is one of those rare players who gives the impression that her command – both technical and musical is total ‘ (The Irish Times). She has the 1st prizes at Henryk Wieniawski competition, Debut Berlin and Novosibirsk competitions.

This is Ellinor’s debut album. A remarkable young artist who is a name to watch.

Right from the start of the Tchaikovsky, your ears are hooked by her strong, confident tone. Her fingers never seem to take a breath as the long burnished phrases roll on and on. You notice too the panache of the Irish orchestra under their principal conductor, Jaime Martín. Woodwinds especially are startlingly colourful and vibrant.

D’Melon has a fine, clean tone and there’s much to like about her Tchaikovsky, particularly the buoyant finale, which is light on its toes.
