August 2022

Ben Glassberg contributes a thoughtful essay to the booklet; with a few exceptions, his tempos are marginally broader than Britten’s, but the astonishing variety of invention, texture and atmosphere in Britten’s scoring comes over more vividly in this new recording.

November 2022

Most notable is the excellent playing of instrumentalists from the La Monnaie Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Ben Glassberg...Each scene and variation of the ‘screw’ theme is paced and coloured in symmetry with the unfolding action and moods on stage. Playing is sharp, detailed and virtuosic.
