The performance by the Opéra Royal period instrument group is lively, well balanced, and provides the perfect accompaniment. Soprano Gwendoine Blondeel has a light, airy, and bright voice, while mezzo-soprano Lucile Richardot has just the right amount of depth to her tone to lend a bit of contrast, though when the two sing together in their duets the result is wonderful

Listen, rejoice and give thanks...From the buoyantly sprung rhythms of the overture onwards there is a lightness of touch, a chiffon-like luminosity and delicacy of texture that are endlessly beguiling.
Gwendoline Blondeel and Lucile Richardot’s allegorical figures worship France’s King with ringing panache, and Luigi De Donato is very memorable as the robust bass voice of the River Seine.
