Daron Hagen: Orson Rehearsed
Omar Mulero (tenor), Robert Frankenberry (tenor), Robert Orth (baritone), Peter Marshall (piano), Daron Aric Hagen, Fifth House Ensemble, Roger Zahab
It’s a hectic 60 minutes with a tendency to cliché (‘we are all alone’) and codmetaphysics (‘eye equals I’). But the collage of ragtime, synth effects and post-romantic arioso engages.

About
Daron Hagen is a Guggenheim, Rockefeller, and Kennedy Center Friedheim Award-winning composer, with a catalogue of internationally performed work spanning four decades. His operafilm Orson Rehearsed is the psychological, emotional, and spiritual journey taken by the American actor, polymath, and creator of Citizen Kane Orson Welles, as he finds himself on the threshold between life and death. Memories of Welles as wunderkind and in his swashbuckling prime are brought to life, as well as successes and failures both real and imagined, with the consolation of a life fully lived. Fusing live players with pre-recorded sounds and effects, the film version of Orson Rehearsed has been a multiple award winner at festivals in the US, Europe and beyond.

the score is itself a rich, beautiful, variegated tapestry, and it’s a tribute both to that and to the expert performance it receives here that the CD still offers so much that interests, intrigues and satisfies...The three Orsons, all within their vocal comfort zones, sing admirably and, for all their intended differences of age and experience, exhibit a strong sonic kinship
