On January 24, 1656, barely a month after arriving in Rome, having abdicated the Swedish throne, the 30-year-old Queen Christina (1626-1689) convened an academy of artists, writers, and scholars at the Polazzo Farnese, her new residence in exile. This album features works performed under these auspices.
This is an amazing collection of works from the Italian Baroque, in superlative performances by vocal instrumental ensemble Armonia Celeste.
