About

Heralded by the daily Publico as one of Portugals premier violinists and by the weekly Expresso as one of todays most renowned Portuguese musicians, Bruno Monteiro is internationally recognised as a distinguished violinist of his generation. Fanfare Magazine describes him as having a burnished golden tone and The Strad states that his generous vibrato produces radiant colours. and Gramophone Magazine praises his unfailing assurance and eloquence. Along with his partner Joao Paulo Santos, this is a very special release of Igor Stravinsky's works for Violin and Piano. Featuring some of his well known works including the Suite italienne for Violin and Piano. Divertimento for Violin and Piano (from The Fairys Kiss) and Three Pieces for Violin and Piano from Firebird, this is a welcome addition to the catalogue from these fine musicians.

Awards and reviews

Bringing lesser-known Stravinsky into the spotlight, it offers a sterling service to the repertoire. The recording is excellent, beautifully present and with just the right distance between violin and piano. Full and informative notes complete a fabulous release. (…) Stravinsky’s music shines eternal in these often revelatory performances by Monteiro and Santos.

This is a fine traversal of Stravinsky’s output for violin and piano from two of Portugal’s most distinguished chamber musicians. It is particularly welcome because it eschews fireworks for their own sake. Virtuosity is there, certainly, but what I particularly value here is a sense of intimacy, of mellowness of sound...A very fine recording.

Musical Opinion

This new recording stands as the most completely authentic collection to have ever been issued. It is splendid recorded; It is the intelligent and profoundly musical approach from this gifted violinist and his admirable partner that is so impressive. Technically flawless, this is one of the Records of the Year.

Pizzicato

The violinist’s playing is immensely imaginative and rhythmically precise, so that the moods are worked out very sharply. (…)With technically and expressively outstanding performances and a good sound recording, this Etcetera production is highly recommendable.

Classical Music Daily

Gentle and tender Stravinsky: the two players are an excellent duo.
