Christoph Schiller’s prepared spinet appears a good deal on Another Timbre. He is one of the most interesting musicians around, working that fertile grey area between composition and improvisation. But his playing partner on this disc, Argentine guitarist-composer Tomás Cabado, is probably new to many, though he recently released his first CD on the Wandelweiser label. The two met and recorded for a day at Christoph’s studio in Basel, playing compositions by both musicians as well as improvising. The results are wonderfully relaxed but compelling music. “There was a very beautiful confluence of ideas, almost by chance, in that encounter with Christoph.” (Tomás Cabado)
