He conveys a fine sense of the sonata’s finale’s geniality, performs a delightfully sprightly scherzo tempered by a genteel formality in the trio, and creates a marvelously nocturnal, desolate landscape in the minor-key sections of the second Moment musical. The last of the Moments misicaux is particularly thoughtful, intimate, and communicative. And again, throughout the entire recital, Williams is sensitive to harmonic movement, thoughtful in his phrasing, and clearly emotionally invested in the repertoire.
