May 2019
There’s no doubting its seriousness: the music is economical and often haunting…Where the work seems less successful, however, is in its setting of the broader context…It’s a memorable piece, though; and, in its refined, lightly tonal musical language, a rewarding listen. In short: well worth hearing for anyone interested in Schoeck and music of this time.
August 2019
Schoeck is not as well known or appreciated today as he should be, but the music he produced during his lifetime is, once heard, unforgettable…Venzago leads a heartfelt, dramatically touching performance…Gordeladze is a standout for the lovely, limpid purity of her soprano…The moving forces behind this recording…deserve gratitude for rescuing this neglected opera and giving it the second chance it deserves.
