There’s more than a hint of The Dambusters in Wood’s (much earlier) Festival March, which opens this set of mostly unrecorded – and wonderfully British – orchestral suites. Gems all.

Within the limitations of the light music genre, Haydn Wood must be viewed as a composer of efficiency and, at best, not inconsiderable class…Woods’s orchestration is consistently effective, if not groundbreaking, and the playing here radiates enjoyment.
