Organist James McVinnie performs his own new versions of iconic Glass works including three selections from Koyaanisqatsi, North Star, and Mad Rush.
If you thought organists survived on a high-fibre diet of J.S. Bach, think again. James McVinnie is one of the most innovative exponents of the instrument today and has collaborated with a diverse assortment of musicians, ranging from experimental electronic producer Oneohtrix Point Never to American singer/songwriter Sufjan Stevens. This album finds him exploring the work of one of his idols, Philip Glass, giving music from Koyaanisqatsi and Mad Rush – one of Glass’s most haunting pieces, originally conceived for organ – a brave new sound world of kaleidoscopic variety.
James McVinnie is an English organist most prominently known for his performances at significant worldwide events and his burgeoning collaborations with leading composers, performers, and artists from all over the globe.
