The present recording was made in the Galerie Dorée (Gilded Gallery) of the Banque de France. Couperin, who lived in the rue Neuve-des-Bons-Enfants, very close by, gave music lessons there to the Comte de Toulouse, whose town house the building was at the time. This inspirational venue for the performers is nowadays haunted by the presence of the composer, like a ghost in a chemise blanche.
