Awards and reviews

September 2017

All [is] delivered by Guzo with a sonic winsomeness that beguiles the ear. The brilliance of his playing is involving rather than hectoring, and he sounds untroubled throughout the cycle by its formidable virtuoso demands

18th May 2017

Guzzo is able to encompass all these changes of style and emphasis while drawing all six works into a coherent whole that’s distinctively his. Even though we’re alone with one player, one instrument and a whole bookful of technical challenges for over an hour, there’s nothing dry about this disc.

July 2017

Guzzo’s sound is rich and full, complementing a forensic attention to detail. Technically he is superb, his tone focused and his intonation secure, however extreme the demands … There are some fine recordings of these sonatas around; this one is certainly worthy to join them

Classical Music September 2017

Behind the immense technical challenges presented by these sonatas, there is a bigger challenge: how to capture the spirit of six of the greatest violinists of the age, encapsulated by Ysäye with true insight and sincerity, without lapsing into parody and while maintaining one’s own artistic integrity. That Guzzo achieves this with such verve and responsiveness while maintaining the listener’s rapt attention for over an hour is a remarkable achievement

Record Review 3rd June 2017

the inhuman technical challenges are dispatched not with ease exactly but with impressive élan by Venezuelan born Giovanni Guzzo … it’s always impressive when a violinist manages not only to surmount the horrendous difficulties but to find the space for the music as well, and it’s good music: wild, passionate and imaginative. Impressive playing
