About

The Sonata D664: an example of Schubert's fine craftsmanship despite being in the shadow of the giant, Beethoven. Only nine years later, Schubert, just 31 years old, produced what was, already, his last sonata (D960), just a few weeks before his shockingly premature death. It would take many decades for these masterpieces to gain the same consideration as the late symphonies of Mozart or Beethoven’s Op.132 but this music is now cherished by today’s artists – among them Javier Perianes, who here returns to Schubert after a remarkable first volume that enjoyed great success with the public.

July 2017

You know you’re in safe hands the moment Perianes and his Steinway strike the first notes of the haunting and masterly Sonata in B flat, D960…wherever Schubert’s inspiration goes, Perianes follows with an enviably mix of ease and aplomb…[he] shows consummate skill dappling the tapestry with clouds, constantly shifting moods with a sureness of touch and attack

June 2017

Perianes is fundamentally an elegant pianist, one who lets the music speak for itself

13th April 2017

With Perianes, the touch is always warm and the edges are never harsh: the hymn-like opening is whispered and tender, the exploratory passages are wide-eyed and the song-like melodies really sing...It’s generous playing.
