About
A new reference recording of Mendelssohn's "Elias" under one of the most important conductors of our times and his internationally successful Balthasar-Neumann-Chor and Ensemble. The recording was made alongside the "Elias" concerts at the renowned Konzerthaus Dortmund, which were described as "sensational" by the press.

it is in every way a big, dramatic interpretation, and as such absolutely in keeping with Mendelssohn’s ideal…Nagy is a powerful, sonorous Elijah, not merely a man of God but an out-and-out demagogue…the whole interpretation is splendidly dramatic, with wide dynamic variations and silences given full value

get a performance as fleet-footed and intelligent as this – conductor Thomas Hengelbrock with his excellent period-instrument ensemble and choir – and all stodge and sanctimony are swept away. There is heft when it matters...But what’s more compelling is the nimbleness, the swift-moving parts.
