About
J.G. Goldberg might just be the most famous composer whose music remains largely unheard. A child prodigy, his name has become almost a household term, thanks to Bach’s masterpiece, popularly known as the “Goldberg” Variations. Goldberg did not live to see age 30, and his body of surviving works is not large-two cantatas, two harpsichord concertos, a few dozen small harpsichord pieces, and the five works presented on this recording. The music sparkles in the hands of the virtuosic baroque ensemble Rebel, hailed by the New York Times as "sophisticated and beguiling."

February 2017
The performances from Rebel under Jörg-Michael Schwarz are nothing if not committed (Goldberg’s taut allegros are certainly intense affairs), with the violins quickly settling as natural sparring partners, and always solidly underpinned by the fleet-of-foot continuo…Rebel have successfully extended our awareness of a household name to a musician with his own legacy

Richly inventive repertoire by music history’s most famous forgotten composer.
