This new recording of Janáček's two string quartets is based for the first time on the new editions which were reconstructed from Janáček's autograph sketches (Bärenreiter BA 9520 and BA 9533). Compared with older editions, they demonstrate marked differences and present great technical challenges, especially for the viola.

In addition to the two famous string quartets, No.1 ("Kreutzer Sonata ") and No.2 ("Intimate Letters"), the album also features a beautiful transcription for string quartet of the popular piano work On an Overgrown Path by the composer and musicologist Jarmil Burghauser.
