Psallite presents an inspirational collage of choral works spanning the centuries. Musical eras are intermingled so the listener can experience the continuity of praise across generations, or hear the

isolation of an individual lamentation. From the renaissance master Palestrina, to contemporary works by Esenvalds and Bryars, and wonderfully moving settings of African-American spirituals, this is a masterful collection which resonates with the traditions of the Psalms, but is also a wonderful summary of choral music styles, brilliantly performed by Cor Cantiamo, the accomplished and acclaimed ensemble which is the current Choir in Residence at Northern Illinois University, USA.

The recording is also notable for bringing together young composers from several countries in works specially commissioned for the CD. Full texts are supplied in the booklet.
