About
The Greek baritone and international opera soloist Dimitris Tiliakos recorded a wonderful version of the Winterreise cycle, together with pianist Vassilis Varvaresos. Dimitris is known from the international opera stage. He recently recorded the title role ‘Don Giovanni’ for Sony Classical under the baton of Teodor Currentzis. He has chosen Navis Classics to record the Lieder-repertoire, starting with Winterreise.
In the booklet you will find the interesting link between the ancient Greek history and this wonderful repertoire from the heart of Europe; Dimitris points out that the dynamic between Eros and Thanatos, Love and Death, is the main theme of ancient Greek drama.

This is a bleak, stark existential journey, with Dimitris Tiliakos’s clean, slightly dry timbre complemented by the bare, sometimes aptly desiccated textures conjured up by his excellent pianist…the steadiness and control of Tiliakos’s soft singing are heard to particularly touching effect in ‘Wasserflut’…his diction is invariably clear; and throughout he avoids the slightest hint of sentimentality
