Marian Borkowski, composer, musicologist, pianist, teacher, and organizer of musical life, b. 17 Aug. 1934 in Pabianice. He studied composition with Kazimierz Sikorski and piano with Jan Ekier and Natalia Hornowska at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw. At the same time he studied musicology at Warsaw University under Józef M. Chomiński (Master of Musicology in 1966). In the years 1966-1968, thanks to a French Government grant, he continued postgraduate studies in composition with Nadia Boulanger and Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatory and American Conservatory in Fontainebleau and with Iannis Xenakis at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes. This special CD conducted by the composers son, Piotr Borkowski, who has been promoting works of Marian Borkowski in Poland and abroad for many years. He has often been conducting them during the International Festival Laboratory of Contemporary Music. Many of these works have been recorded during this Festival. The album contains recordings of great forms: for orchestra and instrumental ensemble (Limits, Visions II, Dram, Variant), and religious vocal and instrumental music (De Profundis, Pax in Terra II, Hymnus, Dies Irae).
