About

Music for a Queen is a programme with music written or dedicated to Queen Christina and music around her. Some of the finest music for the baroque guitar was written by MichelAngelo Bartolotti and his music in this programme is dedicated to Queen Christina. There is also music Corelli, Gaspar Sanz and from swedish manuscripts and folktunes from Sweden at her time.

In works spanning from a 12th century sequence found in a Danish/Swedish manuscript to completely new compositions by a Norwegian songwriter this programme encompasses more than 800 years of Scandinavian musicmaking. Medieval, baroque, traditional and contemporary music intermingles in a rich and colourful mosaic of pieces arranged with great ingenuity and respect by Holmertz, Bock and Høxbro. Join them in a Scandinavian musical oddyssey for flute, strings and soprano voice.

Awards and reviews

March 2015

He is not afraid to allow a more romantic sensibility to colour the sarabandes or the slower variations in the passacaglias. Nor does he hesitate to employ a cleaner sound more associated with a modern classical guitar to offset the distinctive resonance of the instrument...The result is playing of real depth and distinction.

April 2015

While the music on this disc may indeed have been written as 'Music for a Queen', one doesn't need to be of royal blood to appreciate and enjoy it. In its contemplative and virtuosic elements alike, in its subtlety and its seeming spontaneity of feeling and shape, it rewards the listener both intellectually and emotionally.
