Eric Craven is beginning after a lifetime of relative self imposed obscurity to create quite a stir with his new approach to non-prescriptive composition which has led to commissions from the USA. Following his pioneering CD “Set for Piano” (Metier MSV28525) we present three major sonatas in widely differing styles released by firm advocate Mary Dullea.
CD1 includes Sonatas 7 and 9, in 5 and 3 movements respectively; these are reasonably modest in length and complexity and achieve high cohesion of tonality.
Sonata 8, on CD2, is a 48-minute single movement requiring phenomenal skill to conquer, and Dullea succeeds admirably.
