Awards and reviews

January 2014

Ireland devotees should savour the new material in this crazy quilt of the poignant and frivolous, the strong and the weak.

6th July 2013

The CD includes premiere recordings of five attractive pre-1914 ballads that Ireland published under a pseudonym. Despite some awkwardness at the top, Stone’s baritone proves a lively and expressive guide, ably partnered by Kynoch.

March 2014

Stone uses all his gifts in this splendid collection of John Ireland's songs to bring out their varied range of expression...Altogether a disc to leave one freshly enthusiastic about the writing of John Ireland

11th July 2013

They illustrate both the easy charm of Ireland's music and its lack of real musical muscle...Stone does all he can to disguise such lapses; his performances with pianist Sholto Kynoch are models of discretion, with just occasional lapses of intonation to disturb their poise.
