About
This Oratorio, Mary Magdalene Gospel, was written in 2010-2011 and was commissioned by the State Choir Latvija and Riga International Sacred Music Festival and is dedicated to Professor Aino Tamberg, the teacher of composer Peeter Vahi.
It was premiered in 2011 and is scored for extended orchcestra with a full wind and brass section, plus exploring a whole gamut of percussion instruments including natural sounds.
Based on the gospels written for but excluded from the New Testament (the Coptic script), these works are mostly based on passions, the most famous of predecessors being those written by JS Bach.
