Stenhammar was a virtuoso pianist and renowned composer in his day and achieved early success with his piano works, even if he was less well known outside of Scandinavia than his colleagues and friends Carl Nielsen and Jean Sibelius.
On this recording for Capriccio Cassandra Wyss performs three of Stenhammar’s piano works; the frequently played Three Fantasies Op. 11, Nights of Later Summer, one of Stenhammar’s last works, and the Sonata Op. 12.
